GENERAL

SUMMARY

Boston College High School seeks a dynamic and mission-aligned Middle School Counselor for the  year.

The counselor works with teachers, the other Arrupe Middle School counselor, and the administration to support students in their academic, social, and emotional growth. The school counselors are essential members of the Arrupe Middle School leadership team.

Reports To

Head of the Arrupe Middle School and the Director of School and College Counseling

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Work closely with the Arrupe Middle School administrators, other counselors, the staff of the Academic Resource Center, and the teachers to support all students within the division.
  • Provide individual counseling to students.
  • Run support groups for students.
  • Plan and implement the advisory curriculum.
  • Lead an advisory group.
  • Run workshops, flex activities, and assemblies.
  • Plan, organize, and execute parent programs such as parent coffees.
  • Organize programming to support mental and physical wellness.
  • Support teachers in their work with students.
  • Plan and run student of concern meetings.
  • Attend to assigned prefecting duties.
SELECTION CRITERIA
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university;
    Master’s degree in counseling preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience working with 7th and 8th grade students
  • Demonstrated experience with middle school advisory programs
  • Strong organizational, communication, and relationship-building skills
  • The ability to work with students and parents and to collaborate with teachers, counselors, and administrators to support students
  • Commitment to the mission and values of Jesuit, Catholic education and holistic student formation.
