Conservatory Lab Charter School is a K1‑through‑grade‑8 charter school located in Hancock and Boston, Massachusetts. The school emphasizes project‑based learning, music, and community engagement, and is recognized for strong student growth and an innovative curriculum.

Job Description

The Building Substitute will provide classroom support across multiple grade levels, serving as a flexible, adaptable educator with strong classroom management skills. The role requires maintaining consistency with school‑wide management systems, aligning with Massachusetts standards, and fostering a safe, high‑expectation learning environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manage the assigned classroom as a substitute teacher
  • Maintain regular communication with the school administrator about the daily schedule and coverage
  • Implement existing lesson plans and facilitate instructional activities
  • Utilize direct instruction, small‑group work, projects, and cooperative learning to engage all students
  • Communicate with classroom teachers regarding lesson plans, student progress, and routines
  • Maintain high academic expectations for all students
  • Collaborate with grade‑level teams and support staff to problem‑solve and identify effective differentiation strategies to meet student learning needs and close achievement gaps
  • Articulate the school’s culture, vision, and mission to students and parents
  • Share responsibility for celebrating grade‑level and school‑wide activities
  • Use technology tools, including the Google Suite, academic platforms, projectors, and video‑conferencing systems
  • Apply school‑wide management systems and routines to maintain high expectations for students
Qualifications
  • Required:

    Bachelor’s degree
  • Preferred: 2–3 years of experience working with urban youth
  • Preferred:
    Bilingual proficiency in Spanish, Haitian Creole, or Cape Verdean Creole
