Brighton High School (BASAS
10B) is one of Boston’s open enrollment, comprehensive high schools that welcomes all students and reflects the City of Boston. We offer a diverse array of programs, including a Biomedical Pathway, a Business & Entrepreneurship Pathway, Spanish and Arabic language programs, multiple AP courses, competency‑based special education, an alternative high school program, and various sports and club opportunities.

We are seeking an Assistant Head of School with experience supporting and leading CTE pathway programs, alternative education, special education, restorative practices, and comprehensive ESL programming. Candidates should also have experience developing internships, building strong relationships with area colleges and universities, and successfully partnering with community groups and stakeholders across Boston.

General Description: We are looking for a visionary, dynamic educational leader who is highly motivated, results‑oriented, and committed to high performance standards for both students and educators.

Reports to: Principal/Headmaster

Responsibilities:

  • Takes leading responsibility for promoting a welcoming, positive, restorative school culture where every student feels cared for and valued.
  • Promotes the school’s PBIS framework.
  • Implements BPS Code of Conduct and advises Deans on its application.
  • Provides coaching and leadership development support for classroom teachers, Deans, and Security Personnel.
  • Supervises and evaluates teachers, Deans, and Security Personnel for professional academic growth.
  • Assists teachers in gathering and using classroom data to inform instruction; assists the School Culture Team in using data for school‑wide initiatives.
  • Assists teachers in lesson and unit plan development aligned with CCSS.
  • Supervises all staff and assumes Principal duties when needed.
  • Plans and participates in ILT and professional development planning.
  • Seeks funding to enhance cultural and academic programs.
  • Uses data to guide academic goals and assists the Principal in preparing the Quality School Improvement document.
  • Assists the Principal in planning activities, including coordinating curriculum, instruction, student, volunteer, parent activities, and student support services.
  • Engages the wider community to support school goals.
  • Assumes full responsibility for all assigned areas and follows all duties through completion.
  • Assumes other related duties as requested by the Principal/Headmaster.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Master’s Degree in Education or related field.
  • Minimum of three (3) years successful teaching experience.
  • Evidence of successful leadership experience.
  • Massachusetts license for School Principal/Assistant Principal (grades specific).
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities, interpersonal skills, and personal characteristics for working effectively with students, teachers, administrators, and parents.
  • Ability to establish a multicultural atmosphere that enhances individual growth and promotes a positive self‑image.
  • Expertise in restorative justice practices; experience with school discipline and attendance policies.
  • Experience with budget preparation and implementation.
  • Advanced technology skills.
  • Experience with the full process involved in development and implementation of master schedules.

Qualifications Preferred:

  • Teaching experience in a K‑12 educational setting.
  • Experience as a school administrator.
  • Both ESL and Special Education licensure.
  • Expertise with professional development.

Terms: BASAS, Group 10B, 211 days
