Role Description The Behavior Special Education Teacher is a full-time, on-site position located in the Greater Boston area, serving students within the Manchester School District. This role focuses on providing specially designed instruction and behavior support to students with emotional and behavioral needs, using evidence-based strategies and individualized education plans (IEPs). Day-to-day responsibilities include assessing student needs, developing and implementing behavior intervention plans, delivering small-group and individual instruction, and monitoring progress.
The teacher collaborates closely with general education teachers, related service providers, families, and administrators to ensure coordinated support and compliance with federal and state special education regulations. Additional duties include maintaining accurate documentation, participating in IEP meetings, contributing to school-wide behavior initiatives, and engaging in ongoing professional learning.
Qualifications
- Valid special education teaching certification (or eligibility) in New Hampshire, with experience supporting students with behavioral and emotional needs.
- Demonstrated knowledge of behavior management strategies, Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), and functional behavior assessment (FBA) and intervention planning.
- Experience developing and implementing IEPs, progress monitoring, and using data to adjust instruction and interventions for diverse learners.
- Strong collaboration skills for working with multidisciplinary teams, families, and community partners to support student success.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, including clear documentation, professional reporting, and family-friendly communication.
- Ability to create inclusive, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive classroom environments that promote safety and engagement.
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field;
Master’s degree, relevant endorsements, or specialized training in behavior support are preferred. - Comfort with using educational technologies, data systems, and classroom tools to support instruction and behavior monitoring.
