Company One Theatre (C1) is seeking a highly motivated individual to join the organization as an In‑School Teaching Artist. C1’s Education Department, Stage One, facilitates theatre elective and theatre integration residencies in middle and high school students, aged 11‑22 in the following communities:
Boston, Lynn, and Chelsea. These residencies run the full school year and operate at differing schedules based on the school’s individual needs.
This opportunity is open to all educators—teaching artists, educational organizers, and cultural workers—who are eager to explore how theatre can spark dialogue, learning, and collective action.
Stage One is Company One’s Educational programming, where:
- We teach social justice using the tools of theatre with students from 3rd grade to extended age high schoolers at 22 years old.
- We are committed to serving multi‑lingual learners, and our students reflect the larger community of Boston, many of them speaking Spanish, Haitian Creole, and Cape Verdean Creole.
- We teach all our students with the trauma‑informed approach that serves our therapeutic day placement and subseparate classes, which takes their unique needs into consideration.
- We approach the classroom with the goal of building ensemble skills and creating community, leading student interactions with empathy and care.
- Attending all classes to which you are assigned for the duration of the academic year
- Preparing and delivering appropriate instruction determined by the school and C1’s Associate Director of Education
- Handling student issues in an appropriate and responsible manner
- Maintaining ongoing communication with school personnel regarding school logistics, policies, and procedures in a collegial and appropriate way, including but not limited to:
- Pre‑meeting to determine goals
- Mid‑partnership check‑in and reflection
- End of partnership de‑brief
- Awareness of schedule changes (due to testing, field trips, half days, etc.)
- Timely communication of absences to both school partner and C1 Associate Director of Education
- Attending all monthly scheduled teacher training/professional development sessions (as determined by the C1 Associate Education Director)
- Attending quarterly meetings with the C1 Associate Education Director for the duration of the academic year
- Maintaining a shared document of your curricular goals, plans, and reflection
- Teaching/mentoring experience and/or work with middle and high school students
- Theatre content knowledge

Position:
Part‑Time Exempt
Compensation: starting at $55 per teaching hour; $25 per professional development/meeting hour.
