General Description

Under the supervision of the Director of Youth Programs, the Youth Center Coordinator will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the Faneuil Gardens Youth Center in Allston-Brighton
. This includes overseeing the operations of the center, working with youth at the site to support their social emotional, education, and workforce needs, and organizing a wide range of social, cultural, recreational, educational, and community service activities at the center for youth 5-18 years old at the Faneuil Gardens development.

The Youth Center Coordinator will manage the Youth Center and coordinate with community partners who provide services at the site to ensure smooth delivery of services.

The Youth Center Coordinator will design programming towards youth’s self-sufficiency for teenagers including: workforce development, higher education exploration, financial literacy, and digital equity.

At the same time, the Youth Center Coordinator will ensure there are daily recreational activities at the center, either by working with partners or independently planning activities. The Youth Center Coordinator will recruit youth to participate in these programs and where appropriate make referrals for youth to other agencies.

The Youth Center Coordinator will work 35 hours per week from 1-8 pm Monday through Friday. BHA anticipates a center schedule of 3-5 pm serving children and 5-7 pm serving teenagers. BHA and the selected candidate will decide the final hours in conjunction with the tenant taskforce and youth.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Manages the day-to-day operations of the Faneuil Gardens youth center, including cleanliness of center, equipment inventory, maintaining rules and expectations, and coordinating with families on their child’s behavior and needs at the center
  • Coordinates and develops programs for Faneuil Gardens youth for after school, evenings, and some weekends during both the school year and the summer months
  • Develops and implements on-site and off-site recreational, educational, and/or enriching activities geared for youth to promote their self-sufficiency, physical health, social emotional health, and workforce readiness
  • Develops and manages relationships with new and existing partners to deliver diverse programs to youth at the center and coordinates with these partners on service needs of individual youth
  • Conducts outreach to establish new relationships with service providers
  • Supervises youth workers participating in summer and after school Success Link program on site, including preparing tasks, providing feedback and mentoring on work performance
  • Creates a monthly center calendar of events along with other promotional materials like flyers
  • Conducts community outreach by phone, door-to-door and flyers to recruit youth to programs and engage residents, particularly caregivers, in youth programming
  • Keeps accurate record of assistance and referrals provided to youth
  • Plans ad hoc events at the center for youth during and outside of traditional programming hours, such as movie nights, open houses, and back to school events
  • Works with and delegates tasks as needed for community volunteers at the center
  • Attends resident board meetings and establishes partnerships with other area providers
  • Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience

A High school diploma or GED is required. Bachelor’s Degree and advanced training in a related field are preferred. Two years of experience working at a youth center with teenagers required.
