POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Boston Architectural College Library (BAC) seeks an experienced, enthusiastic, motivated and creative Instruction and Outreach Librarian who is well‑versed in the evolution of instruction and information literacy practices. This full‑time position oversees, coordinates, plans, and provides instruction and outreach to the BAC community. The successful candidate will establish fruitful working relationships with faculty, education department directors, and students; will be familiar with information literacy core competencies and emerging best‑practices regarding the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into course curriculum.

As part of library outreach, this position will curate exhibits and social media posts, and identify opportunities to expand library programming.

This position reports to the Library Director and is expected to be collaborative, motivated, familiar with best practices, and eager to innovate.

Responsibilities
  • Work with faculty and education department directors to integrate information competencies into the curriculum.
  • Work with faculty and education department directors to integrate appropriate artificial intelligence (AI) into student learning and instruct in the ethical use of AI in coursework and research.
  • Coordinate and schedule library instruction and information literacy activities.
  • Serve as the contact person for general inquiries about library instruction.
  • Advocate for and promote information literacy, including AI literacy, to the BAC community.
  • Assess, evaluate, and maintain statistics regarding the instruction and information literacy program.
  • Investigate and utilize new pedagogical approaches to instruction and information literacy where relevant.
  • Create teaching materials such as research guides (Lib Guides) and online tutorials.
  • Expand knowledge of the curriculum by attending faculty, staff, and institutional presentations.
  • Explore and recommend new curriculum and general collection resources to Library staff, in particular to the Collection Development Manager.
  • Provide reference service at the Library’s Reference Desk.
  • Oversee the Library’s social media and on‑site displays.
  • Manage class reserves: contact faculty, retrieve materials, prepare online reserve lists, and update them throughout the semester.
  • Manage and promote the use of library materials by distance students.
  • Perform additional tasks as determined by the Library Director.

Qualifications (Required)
  • MLS/MLIS degree from an ALA‑accredited library school.
  • Experience with teaching in a classroom or hybrid environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to create online tutorials and research guides.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Demonstrated research and analysis skills.
  • Experience with automated library systems and discovery platforms.
  • Organizational skills and the ability to work both in a team setting and independently.
  • Interpersonal, written, and verbal skills.
Preferred
  • Educational background in the arts.
  • 2+ years of professional experience in an academic or research library.
Additional Requirements
  • May be called upon to work a single evening shift a week, if needed.
  • Must be able to speak clearly and understand spoken communication.
