Job Description & How to Apply Below

The Newman School is seeking a dynamic, knowledgeable, and student-centered middle school science teacher to join our faculty. Newman faculty report directly to the Assistant Head of School and are members of an academic department, responsible for planning and implementing course curriculum as designed and assigned by the department chair and meeting departmental objectives. In addition to teaching, faculty advise a group of students and contribute to the broader school program — clubs, activities, and athletics — the equivalent of one out of two terms.

The successful candidate will be a passionate educator committed to Newman's mission and to the goals of the International Baccalaureate: to develop inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people who help create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. They will bring strong science content expertise, a passion for hands-on investigation, and the energy to inspire 7th and 8th graders to think and work like scientists — designing and delivering inquiry-based lessons aligned to the IB MYP sciences framework and integrating research, experimentation, and real-world relevance throughout the curriculum.

Qualifications
  • A bachelor’s degree in science, education, or a related field is required
  • A master’s degree is preferred
  • At least two years of experience working in a school environment with students in grades 7-12, experience with IB preferable.
Responsibilities
  • Preparing and delivering engaging and developmentally appropriate science lessons to students in grades 7-8
  • Engaging in professional development related to science and teaching and learning
  • Effectively using technology to enhance instruction and learning
  • Assessing student performance and providing feedback that supports growth and development
  • Conducting parent conferences and communicating effectively with parents and families
  • Collaborate with colleagues in grade-level team meetings and department meetings
  • As an advisor, serve as a primary point of contact for parents and families
  • Engage in coaching or activities outside of the classroom as assigned
  • Interested candidates should send a resume, cover letter, and a list of three references to careers with the subject "science teacher"
