Student Assistant Library’s Reference and Instruction Team

Eligibility

To participate in Berklee Student Employment, applicants must be current students at Berklee College of Music or Boston Conservatory y must be enrolled at least half‑time in a degree, diploma, or certificate‑seeking undergraduate or graduate program. The only semester in which a student may work without enrollment is summer; for other semesters, the student must be pre‑registered for the upcoming fall semester.

Applicants must have a valid U.S. Social Security Number (SSN) or maintain valid visa status as applicable, have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 (first‑semester students may work before GPA is assigned), be in good disciplinary standing, and be located in the U.S.

This Library Reference, Instruction, and Engagement Team position starts at the beginning of September 2026. The role involves interacting with the Berklee community via the library’s website chat and creating educational content that promotes library resources. The position totals 10–20 hours per week with an hourly rate of $16.97. The hiring manager is Erin Finn.

• Chat live with the Berklee community on the library’s website, answering questions and referring to staff members when appropriate.
• Attend monthly team meetings.
• Navigates the library’s online resources effectively.
• Support instructional efforts by creating content such as displays, social media posts, instructional guides, and videos.
• Assist library staff with conceptualizing and executing projects to promote resources.

• Friendly, considerate, and public‑service oriented.
• Comfortable interacting with Berklee students, staff, faculty, alumni, and outside researchers.
• Punctual, dependable, and communicates regularly with supervisors and coworkers.
• Effective oral and written communication in English.
• Ability to work independently under guidelines, and refer problems when appropriate.
• Willingness to collaborate to create unique learning experiences for the community.

• Previous library or customer service experience.
• Teaching or training experience.
• Video editing, animation, graphic design, or other content creation experience.
• Familiarity with library resources, catalogs, or database searching.
• Awareness of current events and topics that impact libraries and the information ecosystem (e.g., media literacy, fact‑checking, machine learning tools).
