Teaching Fellow - Financial Reporting and Control Course Job Description & Qualification

Harvard Business School (HBS) seeks a candidate to serve as a part‑time teaching fellow (TF) to assist a faculty course head in ensuring the effective administration of a critical first year MBA course, Financial Reporting and Control (FRC) in the Fall Semester, 2026. This is an exciting opportunity that will provide the successful candidate with firsthand exposure to world‑class faculty, and an ideal environment in which to advance one’s own learning and professional development.

Responsibilities
  • High-level engagement with the faculty teaching group and the course to ensure effective course administration
  • Student support including review sessions, tutorials, problem sets
  • Research including updating and editing cases and supplemental course materials, and preparing teaching notes
Primary Duties
  • The TF will read and prepare cases, attend faculty teaching group meetings, attend classes, and assist with class participation
  • Assist the faculty course head in issues related to course design, quizzes, exams, and assignment preparation
  • Conduct review sessions and provide tutorial support to students outside the classroom
  • Assist the faculty in designing grading templates, and in grading and providing feedback
  • Develop teaching materials to help enhance the course framework, including writing cases, teaching notes, and supplemental materials or tools as directed by the course head
  • Support the teaching group and implement decisions pertaining to course materials, assignments, and communication with students and administrative departments
  • Manage course logistics including preparing and updating the course platform, ensuring the quality of course materials, scheduling teaching group meetings, coordinating Teaching Assistants as needed, and planning and scheduling outside speakers
  • Conduct research or coordinate the research of current events, and work with the teaching group faculty to integrate those materials into the course
  • Build trust and collaboration by being present on‑site and engaging directly with colleagues and various constituents
  • Other duties may be assigned
Qualifications
  • Basic:
    Advanced degree required (MS in accounting or MBA preferred)
  • 3–4 years of relevant experience in accounting or related teaching and research
  • Close familiarity with and ability to research or effectively summarize accounting standards
  • Strong preference for CPA
  • Teaching experience an advantage but not required
  • Excellent writing, analytical, conceptual, communication, interpersonal, organizational, research, and editing skills; ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, adapt to changes, work calmly under deadline pressure, work independently and as a team member, take initiative, follow projects through to completion
  • Must be a very good writer; have extensive training in accounting; solid financial, analytical and conceptual skills; can work independently; at home in an academic environment
Additional Information
  • Appointment End Date:
    December 2026. Part‑time (potential for full‑time) term appointment starting July 2026 through December 2026, with potential for re‑appointment for the following year
  • Standard Hours/

    Schedule:

    20 hours per week
