Adjunct Faculty Member

We are looking for a dedicated adjunct faculty member to teach either CS105 or CS110 to cybersecurity students.

CS105:
Network Communication and Security Fundamentals is a core course designed to provide students with the foundational knowledge and practical skills needed to understand, secure, and troubleshoot modern network communications. We are seeking an instructor with experience teaching core networking and network defense principles. The ideal candidate will have hands-on industry experience in network security, systems administration, or security operations (SOC).

The Instructor will review, update, or develop all materials for the course including the syllabus, slide sets, lab assignments, worksheets, quizzes, and exams as necessary for proper teaching of the material. This course prepares students to take the CompTIA Security+ exam.

CS110:
Introduction to Cybersecurity and Risk Management provides students with a foundational overview of cybersecurity principles and the essential concepts of risk management in information systems. We are seeking an educator with experience teaching security concepts, risk frameworks, and regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate will have practical industry experience in risk assessment, cybersecurity planning, or policy development within technical and organizational environments.

The Instructor will review, update, or develop all materials for the course including the syllabus, slide sets, case studies, worksheets, quizzes, and exams as necessary for proper teaching of the material. This course prepares students to take the CompTIA CYSA+ exam.

Key Responsibilities:

• Meet all scheduled classes on the assigned day/time
• Regularly hold three office hours per week; online format is acceptable
• Notify Program Chair of any absences from scheduled classes and providing instructional materials and directions to ensure consistent and sequential classroom instruction (note: absences should be rare and unavoidable)
• Participate in departmental curriculum development, and review and update course curricula when possible
• Demonstrate committed participation in student learning outcome assessment and college-wide initiatives, including data collection, analysis, curriculum changes, and goal setting
• Use of course texts, outlines, and other curriculum materials in accordance with college and department policies. When an established syllabus is provided and the course is a prerequisite for other courses, any significant deviations must be approved by the department chair.
• Respond to the chair and administrative requests in a timely manner and complete all responsibilities effectively; prompt in keeping appointments, attending meetings (when possible), and beginning classes
• Respond to students in a timely manner
• Evaluate student achievement and provide feedback timely while maintaining accurate student records in the Canvas Learning Management System
• Complete the online "Growing with Canvas for Adjuncts" course before the term begins
• Provide adequate support to students and maintain a respectful, professional rapport
• Participate in communications with the college and department. This includes utilizing the college Dropout Detective Retention Solution warning system to alert advisors when students falter.
• Demonstrate effective teaching including preparation, meeting course goals, organization, and presentation of material, student involvement, and classroom management
• Collaborate with other college departments (academic, student affairs, enrollment, and development) for the mutual benefit of all departments.
• Maintain a culture of accountability and innovation; maintain the college policies and procedures, as outlined in the course catalog, employee and student handbooks.

Required Credentials and Experience include:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree from an accredited college or university in an appropriate field, exceptions can be made with those who has extensive industry experience.
• CompTIA Security+ certification/ CompTIA CYSA+ (or ability to obtain before employment starts).
• Demonstrable knowledge and experience in areas relevant to departmental curricula.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills; and
• A collaborative and inclusive management style.

The salary for this position is $1,178.00 per credit.
