Full-Time Equivalent Hiring Range: $4,495 to $5,620 per month; salary commensurate with relevant experience.
The Theatre Department at Boston College seeks an experienced professional to plan, manage, and supervise the Scenic Shop's daily operations, including the designing and construction of props and scenic art, paint and sculpture for five productions each academic year.
This is a full-time 9-month benefits-eligible staff position starting in mid-August 2026 and running through mid-May each year. The key Shop Supervisor responsibilities include:
- Design, construction and sourcing of props.
- Execute scenic art/paint and sculpture needs of Theatre Department productions
- Maintain and inventory a clean, safe, and well stocked scenic shop in the areas pertaining to props and scenic painting, art and sculpture through organization, cleaning and purchasing.
- Attend and participate in department meetings, production meetings, and technical and dress rehearsals as needed. Supervise student group shows as needed.
- Schedule, assess, and instruct beginning students in basic scenic painting and props construction for students enrolled in Scene Construction/Paint Prep Lab and Props Prep Lab.
- Supervise and train lab students and student workers across skill levels in the area of props and painting.
- BA or BFA in theater preferred.
- One year of experience in a scenic shop.
Experience in a college/university setting is preferred. - Frequent evening and weekend hours are required for technical rehearsals and strike after the last performance of eachproduction.
