About the Opportunity:
The Academic Advisor for Northeastern University’s College of Professional Studies (CPS) reports to the Associate Director of Academic Advising and provides comprehensive academic advising services and support for CPS learners in bachelor and graduate programs across the global network. They design and implement best practices and policies related to advising services to ensure continuous improvement and learner success. The Academic Advisor partners with an assigned caseload of students to facilitate academic and professional planning that incorporates experiential learning and engagement with networks and communities.

The Academic Advisor may have primary responsibilities at their assigned campus and will attend remote meetings and implement projects for specific position responsibilities within Northeastern University, Boston.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Knowledge of academic policies, procedures, college curricular matters, major requirements, counseling practices, and development theory to create a student‑centered environment, plus proficiency with Microsoft Windows suite.
  • Ability to quickly identify and analyze problems and develop realistic solutions.
  • Effective written, verbal, and presentation skills with the ability to communicate empathetically and build trust with students.
  • Ability to explain complex policies and processes clearly to students.
  • Strong planning, organizational skills, and attention to detail to track deadlines, monitor progress, and facilitate completion of degree requirements.
  • Master’s degree preferably in counseling, human services or higher education (or equivalent experience advising in a college/university); preferred higher‑education experience.
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
Academic and Student Support (60%)
  • Manage a caseload of students from admission through graduation, monitoring progress through communication and technology.
  • Connect with students using multiple modalities tailored to their preferences, providing daily availability for scheduled meetings, walk‑in hours, etc.
  • Advocate for students while enforcing institutional policies and regulations.
  • Respond to student inquiries from initial contact to resolution, following up on referrals.
  • Refer students to on‑campus and off‑campus services as appropriate.
  • Actively manage persistence, retention, and graduation; identify and support students in need of academic support or well‑being services.
  • Design and deliver programs such as workshops and webinars to enhance the student experience.
Assessment and Data (20%)
  • Monitor, manage, and report on advisees using required processes and technology platforms.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date notes and record keeping of each student in Salesforce or Navigate, tracking academic progress and outcomes.
  • Track and report substantive engagements, meetings, availability, and activities.
  • Assess, collect, and report student data related to persistence, retention, graduation rates, and satisfaction.
  • Ensure compliance with ADA, FERPA, SEVIS, and other guidelines.
Administration, Academic Program Support, & Professional Development (15%)
  • Process official paperwork related to students’ academic study, including changes of major, transfer credit, petitions to amend degree requirements, and petitions to graduate.
  • Participate in new student orientation and stay informed of research and effective practices in academic and student affairs.
  • Contribute to the development of benchmarks for progress and participate in institutional assessment efforts.
  • Collaborate with other offices and departments to ensure student service functions are performed efficiently.
Other Duties (5%)
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Compensation: $53,615.00 – $75,728.75 (Grade 107S). Position type:
Academic Administration. Expected Hiring Range: $53,615.00 – $75,728.75.
