Eligibility Requirements

  • Current student at Berklee College of Music or Boston Conservatory at Berklee.
  • Enrolled at least half-time in a degree, diploma, or certificate-seeking undergraduate or graduate program.
  • Summer is the only semester in which a student can maintain employment without being enrolled.
  • In this case, the student must be pre-registered for the upcoming fall semester.
  • This exception does not apply to fall or spring semesters.
  • Have a valid United States Social Security Number (SSN).
  • Remain in "valid" Visa status as applicable.
  • A minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA.
  • Students in their first semester can work, even though they do not have an official GPA until the completion of their first semester.
  • Federal Work Study student may apply.
  • In good disciplinary standing.
  • Must be located in the U.S.

The Conservatory Music History Graduate Assistants support and assist assigned Music History faculty in teaching undergraduate Music History courses. Reporting to Rebecca Marchand, the graduate assistants play an important role in delivering high-quality curriculum to students and contributing to the Conservatory community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Attend each large lecture and take notes
  • Understand all material and keep up with reading and listening assignments
  • Take attendance
  • Assist with class setup, photocopying as needed
  • Lead breakout sections
  • Run a 1-hour Listening Laboratory each week (depending on class assigned)
  • Prepare and administer and grade Listening Quizzes
  • Prepare, administer and assess homework assignments
  • Proctor exams/review sessions (Midterm and Final)
Required Skills and Knowledge
  • Demonstration of music history proficiency
  • Good organizational skills
  • Ability to speak in front of a group
  • Good writing skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Able to commit and maintain a regular schedule and be on time
