ESOL TEACHER Catholic Charities Archdiocese of Boston South Boston, Massachusetts, United States About this position

The Adult Education and Workforce Development Division of Catholic Charities of Boston offers comprehensive, high-quality educational services to advance and accelerate the academic achievement of adult immigrant learners who face significant barriers in their search of viable career pathways and self-sufficiency. Beyond offering comprehensive ESOL instruction, the Adult Education Centers provide specialized training across key industry pathways, including healthcare, human services, and information technology (IT), alongside dedicated college and career readiness programming, with flexible schedules and distance learning options.

The ESOL Teacher provides English instruction, academic advising, and personalized support to students; develops up-to-date curriculum materials following student needs and goals; and works collaboratively with the Program Director and Education Center team.

This part-time position is scheduled for 28 hours per week over a 36-week academic year at an hourly rate of $30.00. The regular work schedule is Tuesday and Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Thursday from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Weekly responsibilities include 14 hours of classroom instruction, 5 hours of lesson planning and instructional preparation, 2 hours of professional development and training, 2 hours of student advising and support, and 5 hours of assessment administration, ensuring compliance with program, state, and grant requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teach ESOL to adult students, levels and/or industry focus vary by class and program
  • Conduct initial and on-going assessment of students, including BEST and TABE Class- E
  • Participate in staff development
  • Integrate technology and digital literacy skills in the class curriculum
  • Provide classroom instruction and educational advising
  • Develop curriculum materials including daily lesson plans which meet best practice standards and focus on communication skills
  • Maintain students' records in agency reporting tools
  • Facilitates student access to other educational, skills training, and/or higher educational programs, including their requirements and other information
  • Implement strategies for obtaining student feedback and incorporate data in new course offerings and staff professional development
  • Comply with funder requirements and policies, including DESE standards for Adult Education Center classes
  • Work is performed in a classroom/office environment interacting with students with the use of computers and other office equipment. May stand or sit for prolonged periods.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.
  • Attend all internal and external meetings and trainings as required
  • Local travel as needed

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A bachelor’s degree in education or related field, or teaching certification and commensurate work experience; master’s degree preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 years of teaching experience in a similar environment strongly preferred Strong working knowledge of educational theory and best practices
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and compassionately in a culturally competent manner, with students of a wide variety of backgrounds, skill levels, race and ethnicity with varying level of English language skills
  • Technology skills - knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams) required, Google Classroom and Zoom experience preferred
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.

The base pay range reflects what Catholic Charities reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this role at the time of posting and may be modified from time to time.
