Position: STIPEND OPPORTUNITY:  2nd Shift at Madison CTE Instructor (SY26-27)

Second Shift at Madison CTE Instructor

The 2nd Shift at Madison Park program provides an opportunity for students throughout the district to access career and technical education instruction out of school hours. In the past, BPS students traveled from other district high schools to the Humphrey Occupational Resource Center for access to vocational training and programming. This program revives these efforts to extend vocational opportunities beyond the Madison Park student population and leverage the resources at Madison Park: industry-aligned work spaces with modern facilities and equipment.

In the 2nd Shift at Madison Park program, students participate in 100 hours of instruction that include safety training, introduction to six building trades, and site visits to various unions.

Career and Technical Education (CTE) provides hands-on applied learning experiences that build academic knowledge, problem-solving skills, career readiness skills, and specific technical skills that lead to applicable industry credentialing. CTE includes traditional CH 74 vocational-technical education provided at Madison Park Technical Vocational High School, The English High School, Boston Green Academy, Edward Kennedy Health Careers Academy, and Boston Arts Academy as well as career pathways provided within nine of Boston's comprehensive high schools.

Position Overview

  • Provide a vocational technical course of study that is aligned to state curriculum frameworks, meets the learning needs of the students and maintains a safe learning environment
  • Be in alignment with vocational technical skills and content embodied in the school's curriculum map to achieve equitable student outcomes

Requirements

  • Education:

    High school diploma or the equivalent
  • Employment experience:
    Five years of full-time employment experience directly related to the building trades.
  • Occupational License/ Industry Certification
  • Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment.

Preferred requirements

  • Experience teaching in urban schools and/or an industry setting
  • Has OSHA-10 certification or is willing to earn it
  • Possesses industry-recognized credentials that are part of the curriculum and the ability to train students to earn those credentials
  • BPS values linguistic diversity and believes that candidates who speak another language bring added value to the classroom, school, and district culture and diversity. BPS is particularly interested in candidates who are fluent in one of BPS' official languages:
    Spanish, Creole (Cape Verdean), Creole (Haitian), Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese, & Somali.

Schedule

Instructors will be hired to teach 38 x 3.5 hour sessions for a total 133 hours. In addition, they will be required to complete 10 hours of lesson and curriculum preparation. The program will run after school from October 13th 2026 - March 25th 2027.

Requirements of Role

  • Submit syllabus that includes a diagnostic and post-test, demonstrates evidence of competency on the benchmarks
  • Monitor student progress and submit a grade report
  • Keep accurate and complete records: attendance, all assignments and artifacts
  • Follow up with all Site Director on student attendance and engagement
  • Evaluate student skills and readiness for Industry Recognized Credential assessment.
  • Communicate effectively with students regarding their progress
  • Communicate and collaborate with the Apprentice Navigators about student progress and engagement

Stipend Amount: $8493

BTU rate, $59.39/ hour, 143 total hours

10 hours:
Curriculum, lesson and assessment preparation

133 hours:
Direct instruction
