In order to participate in Berklee Student Employment, a student must fulfill the following requirements:
Current student at Berklee College of Music or Boston Conservatory olled at least half-time in a degree, diploma, or certificate-seeking undergraduate or graduate program. Summer is the only semester in which a student can maintain employment without being enrolled. In this case, the student must be pre-registered for the upcoming fall semester. This exception does not apply to fall or spring semesters.

Have a valid United States Social Security Number (SSN). Remain in “valid” Visa status as applicable. A minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA. Students in their first semester can work, even though they do not have an official GPA until the completion of their first semester. Federal Work Study student may apply. Responsibilities:

What will you be doing?

Each English Skills Tutor is assigned a cohort of nonnative English speakers from an ESL course that you will partner with throughout the semester.

You will help them develop their English skills in weekly one-on-one tutoring sessions.

  • Help improve language skills in all areas (speaking, listening, reading, writing, grammar, and vocabulary)
  • Help students with class assignments and preparing for exams
  • Help students adjust culturally to life in the U.S.

Outside of tutoring sessions, you will be responsible for submitting weekly tutoring progress reports and meeting with the English Skills Tutor Supervisor.

All tutors must attend paid training sessions as required (usually weekly).

Qualifications:

What knowledge and skills do you need?

  • Fluent in English, with strong written and spoken English.
  • A grade of B+ or higher in a college-level writing class (including LENG-111: Introduction to College Writing), or a score of 4 or higher on an AP English test
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with others
  • Ability to stay organized, manage a schedule, and submit reports on time

Hourly Rate: $17.51

Hours per week: 10-15 (hours negotiable)
