About this position

The Teacher participates in the planning and implementation of a safe, nurturing, developmentally appropriate program experience for the children in their care, and assessing children’s progress in all areas of development.

We are currently seeking full-time Teachers for the child care program located at the Yawkey Center in Dorchester.

Responsibilities
  • Contribute to children’s learning, growth, and overall development.
  • Understand and maintain a positive mindset towards children’s learning and social‑emotional development.
  • Respond to the needs of infants and toddlers and invest in the well‑being, health and safety of young children.
  • Actively supervise children to ensure safety both indoors and out, correcting hazards where possible and alerting the supervisor to other concerns.
  • Document and communicate to the Director of Child Care Services observed situations and behaviors of concern.
  • Conduct on‑going observation and assessment of children’s progress using technology provided; maintain children’s portfolio for teacher/parent conferences.
  • Follow health, safety, and housekeeping procedures while maintaining a comforting and inviting classroom environment.
  • Provide child guidance and behavior management according to the center’s policies and procedures.
  • Participate in age‑appropriate curriculum planning, implementation, reflection, and evaluation.
  • Participate in preparation of curriculum materials.
  • Document daily attendance and food program participation.
  • Prepare accident and injury reports in accordance with EEC and DESE regulations; report timely to the Director.
  • Build respectful and professional relationships with parents, children, and colleagues.
  • Assure programming meets the individual child’s needs and is responsive to the cultural and socioeconomic background of children and families.
  • Follow through with all directives and assigned tasks in a professional and positive manner, respecting supervision and constructive criticism.
  • Meet EEC requirements for professional development hours each year and enter them in the PQ Registry under the appropriate Core Competency.
  • Demonstrate willingness to work with colleagues as a team player and contributing member.
  • Maintain a high standard of ethical conduct and professional responsibility, including confidentiality to children, families, colleagues, the community and Catholic Charities.
  • Perform duties such as evacuating the building, with or without corrective devices and accommodations; the ability to read, write, hear conversational voices, speak clearly, and carry assistance aids as required.
  • Work in a classroom and outdoor environment; requires kneeling, standing, walking and sitting inside and outside of the building for play, walks, and other activities.
  • Attend internal and external meetings and trainings, which may include early and late hours as needed for classroom coverage.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
  • EEC teacher certification with the following education and experience combinations:
    • BA in early childhood and 6 months’ work experience;
    • BA in related field and 2 early childhood courses;
    • AA in early childhood and 1 year experience;
    • CDA in early childhood and 2 years’ experience;
    • High school diploma and 3 courses in early childhood with 3 years’ work experience.
  • Motivated, energetic, punctual, and responsible; exhibit a positive attitude and serve as an excellent role model for children and coworkers.
  • Ability to teach and interact with parents, employees, and co‑workers.
  • Pass background record check (CORI/SORI/DCF) and fingerprinting.
  • Positive attitude toward working with children.
