OVERVIEW Boston University is seeking a Senior International Student Advisor for the International Students & Scholars Office. This role supports international students and their dependent family members by providing guidance related to immigration status, visa benefits, and regulatory compliance. The position also serves as a key resource for schools and colleges regarding student immigration processes and SEVIS reporting requirements. The advisor works closely with students, campus partners, and government reporting systems to help maintain accurate records and support compliance with federal regulations.
The role requires strong knowledge of international student advising practices and experience with immigration regulations affecting F-1 and J-1 students.
Advise international students and dependent family members regarding immigration status and visa
- Support regulatory compliance related to student immigration matters
- Serve as Designated School Official (DSO) for F-1 students
- Serve as Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) for J-1 students
- Manage SEVIS reporting and compliance
- Process immigration benefits for students
- Conduct outreach and training activities
- Serve as liaison to schools and colleges regarding international student regulations
- At least 3 years of experience in foreign student or scholar advising
- Expert knowledge of SEVIS
- Expert knowledge of student immigration regulations
- International student advising plays an important role in helping students maintain lawful status and access available immigration benefits throughout their academic experience. Positions focused on compliance and student support also help institutions meet federal reporting obligations while creating a more informed and supportive environment for international students. This advisor role contributes to both student success and institutional accountability by guiding students through complex immigration processes and maintaining accurate regulatory practices.
