Boston University Diversity & Inclusion (BU D&I) is seeking an Assistant Director to support the BU D&I team in two critical functional areas: programming and communications. BU D&I supports BU's 17 schools and colleges as well as administrative units to create and sustain an inclusive campus environment and support a strong sense of belonging for all faculty, staff, and students. The Assistant Director will serve as an institution-wide resource and expert on diversity and inclusion in higher education, design and implement diversity-, equity-, and inclusion-related educational opportunities for the entire BU community of faculty, students, and staff, and serve as a communications liaison, advising the unit on strategic communications and resource development.
Previous professional experience with diversity, equity, and inclusion work through an intersectional lens is essential for this role. The Assistant Director will contribute to the team's development of a programming strategy to enhance campus climate and sense of belonging for all BU community members, oversee and advise six faculty-staff community networks, and collaborate with other campus units to support programming efforts.
With regard to marketing and communications, the Assistant Director will liaise with communications partners to oversee the unit's communications strategy, including creating and sending a monthly newsletter, maintaining social media presence, website management and maintenance, and working closely with a communications graduate assistant. BU D&I is organizationally housed under the Senior Vice President of People, Belonging, & Culture; the Assistant Director reports to the Director of BU D&I.
