Job Description Summary
The Technical Field Advisor II (TFA) provides on‑site technical direction to customer‑owned utility and industrial power plants for their Turbine Generator Systems. Responsible for reviewing plant engineering documents and P&’s, troubleshooting plant systems and equipment, planning, organizing, integrating and directing resources such as labor, tools and materials to complete the contractual work scope. The primary responsibility of the TFA II is to safely accomplish the maintenance and repair of equipment used in power generation applications.
Additional duties may include proactively supporting Steam Power initiatives and aligning with organizational core values.
- Fulfill contract responsibilities for designated Turbine Mechanical and Generator skill sets.
- Direct and oversee repair or inspection procedures using the latest electronic communication, references and documentation technologies.
- Recognize, predict and document potential failures and recommend future outage mitigation.
- Interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs and schematic drawings.
- Participate as a Service Team member dedicated to safety metrics.
- Plan pre‑outages and recommend administration of policies and procedures.
- Lead execution and oversight of projects within the TFA’s core competency.
- Perform project management and act as technical leader.
- Support warranty administration.
- Troubleshoot and problem‑solve with engineering support to resolve customer issues.
- Perform additional duties as assigned and support business needs when not on field assignment.
- Travel as required and work holidays, weekends and overtime as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree in STEM or related discipline from an accredited institution, or a High School Diploma / GED with a minimum of 3 years of hands‑on steam turbine or equivalent nuclear experience.
- Active support of outages with proven installation and outage experience.
- Experience with GE, Alstom, Siemens or other OEM equipment preferred.
- Positive, professional demeanor in managing customer relationships and addressing technical and contractual matters.
- Skill to oversee outage tasks, scopes and small teams.
- Follow all quality aspects according to GE QA manual and procedures.
- Application of EHS policies and procedures.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, computer and communication skills.
- Organizational, project management and leadership abilities.
- Business acumen and ability to promote GE products to customers.
- English proficiency.
- Extensive travel (approx. 80% of time).
- Ability to obtain unescorted security clearance at nuclear facilities.
- Willingness to work holidays, weekends, and overtime.
- Valid driver’s license and passport.
- Ability to climb ladders, work on scaffolding, in hot environments, and lift 25 lbs.
- Meet core competency Level II skill requirements and complete required training programs.
