We are working with a highly profitable energy trading business seeking an FTR Analyst to join its power trading team.

About the Role

This is a technically focused role within a fundamental power trading environment, where the team models the full electricity grid to understand market fundamentals, identify transmission congestion and uncover trading opportunities. The successful candidate will work closely with experienced traders and analysts and have the opportunity to develop deep expertise across power markets, transmission systems, congestion analysis and electricity market modelling.

Responsibilities
  • Analyse electricity market supply, demand and transmission congestion fundamentals.
  • Research and model PJM power markets, with potential exposure to MISO and other major ISOs.
  • Build, maintain and calibrate power-flow and optimisation models.
  • Analyse the impact of new generation, load and transmission projects on grid flows and market prices.
  • Use Optimal Power Flow (OPF) techniques to identify congestion and trading opportunities.
  • Calculate and analyse PTDFs, LODFs and ATCs.
  • Support FTR and congestion trading analysis and forward valuation.
  • Work with production cost models and contribute to maintaining underlying grid models.
  • Develop Python-based tools for automated analysis, reporting, visualisation and dashboards.
  • Mine and analyse large datasets to identify market opportunities.
  • Communicate market insights, risks and opportunities clearly to the wider trading team.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Mathematics, Economics or another quantitative discipline.
  • 2+ years of relevant electricity-market, power-systems, consulting, ISO or trading experience.
Required Skills
  • Strong understanding of power markets and transmission networks.
  • Hands‑on experience with Optimal Power Flow and grid/network modelling.
  • Experience with tools such as PSS/E, TARA, Power World, PROMOD, PLEXOS, Dayzer, GE MAPS, UPLAN or similar.
  • Strong Python programming and quantitative modelling skills.
  • Understanding of PTDF, LODF and ATC.
  • Ability to work with incomplete information, form hypotheses and make commercially relevant judgements.
  • Strong communication, ownership and teamwork skills.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience with in PJM or MISO.
  • Experience maintaining and modifying grid models, rather than simply running existing models.
  • A Master's or PhD in Power Systems, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Economics or a related quantitative field.
  • Experience with optimisation, statistics, econometrics or machine learning applied to power markets.
  • Experience with SQL, databases or energy-market data platforms.
  • Exposure to natural gas markets.
  • Experience with software development practices such as Git, testing and code review.
Pay range and compensation package

Base salary is expected to be up to approximately $200,000, depending on experience, with a significant performance-driven bonus opportunity. Strong performers can earn substantially above their base compensation.
