The Opportunity

Hydrix is appointing a Vice President of Business Development to accelerate growth across the US and European medical device markets.

This is a senior, externally facing leadership role for a technically credible commercial leader who understands how complex, regulated medical devices are conceived, funded, developed, andcommercialized.

You will work directly with founders, CTOs, VPs of R&D, regulatory leaders, and executive teams to identify, shape, and win high-value product development programs. This is not a product sales role. You will be selling engineering capability, systems thinking, and execution confidence into programs where technical risk, regulatory constraint, and commercial pressure are tightly coupled.

You willoperateat the point where clinical need, engineering reality, and commercial decision-making meet, acting as a trusted technical and commercial advisor throughout the sales and early engagement phases.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

Commercial Leadership and Business Development

  • Build and manage senior-level relationships with medical device OEMs, start-ups, and innovation teams across the US and Europe.
  • Establish andmaintaina balanced pipeline of product development opportunities, ranging from small engagements through to large multi-million-dollar programs.
  • Lead complex, consultative sales cycles involving multi-disciplinary engineering and regulatory services.
  • Shape opportunities early by working with clients to understand clinical intent, technical requirements, regulatory pathways, timelines, and commercial constraints.
  • Communicate Hydrix differentiated value in regulated medical device development, design controls, and systems engineering.
  • Support proposal development, pricing strategy, and contract negotiations for complex development programs.
  • Identify and communicate commercial, technical, regulatory, financial, and delivery risks associated with potential engagements.

Client, Market, and Strategic Engagement

  • Act as a trusted technical and commercial advisor to clients during the sales cycle and, where required, early-stage product definition.
  • Represent Hydrix in dealings with industry associations, partners, and relevant government or regulatory bodies.
  • Contribute to business developmentstrategyacross target regions, including market positioning, account targeting, and go-to-market approach.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of market trends, funding dynamics, and innovation activity within the medical device sector.

Internal Collaboration and Governance

  • Work closely with internal engineering, regulatory, and program management teams to shape client engagements and define win strategies.
  • Support internal resourceprioritizationand opportunity selection based on financial return, strategic alignment, andorganisationalcapability.
  • Maintainaccurateand current CRM data relating to leads, prospects, qualified opportunities, and client relationships.
  • Collaborate with our BD team and report regularly to the Head of Business Development on opportunity status, strategy, risks, and commercial outcomes.
