Overview
Our client is a global technology innovator based in the Boston area, building advanced hardware and software platforms used across industrial, healthcare, automotive, communications, and intelligent edge applications. Their teams work on real world problems at the intersection of signal processing, compute, and AI, with a strong focus on practical impact and collaboration. They are seeking a Staff Research Scientist, specializing in Hardware to join their growing team in Boston.
Title: Staff Research Scientist, AI Hardware Co Design
Duration: FTE
Location: Boston, MA (Hybrid)
Compensation: $175k to $225k+ base DOE, 15 to 20 percent bonus, plus RSUs
Responsibilities- Define and advance hardware-software co-design for AI systems in collaboration with research and engineering teams.
- Investigate architecture and platform design choices to improve performance, energy efficiency, and scalability for AI/compute-heavy workloads.
- Prototype and validate ideas through hands-on implementation and experiments with hardware and software models.
- Collaborate across teams to translate research into working prototypes and drive practical impact.
- PhD in Computer Architecture, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field
- Experience working on AI or compute heavy systems where hardware constraints matter
- Strong understanding of computer architecture concepts such as memory, data movement, and performance tradeoffs
- Hands on experience with machine learning models and an interest in how they map to real hardware
- Comfort working across research and engineering teams to turn ideas into working prototypes
- Experience with AI accelerators, SoCs, or heterogeneous compute platforms
- Background in model optimization, quantization, or efficient inference
- Exposure to DSP, sensors, or signal driven systems
- Some familiarity with RTL or silicon development, even if not a day to day focus
