Environmental/Wetland Scientist - Energy Consulting

About Our Client: A prominent environmental consulting firm in the Northeast U.S., known for its diverse client base and commitment to project success and team support.

Summary:

Our client is seeking dedicated entry to mid-level Environmental/Wetland Scientists to join their newly formed Energy Services Practice. In this role, you will play a crucial part in supporting natural resource surveys and environmental permitting on various energy projects, including electric transmission/distribution, battery energy storage, solar, natural gas, and both onshore and offshore wind generation. Primary Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of federal, state, and local environmental permit applications and technical reports including, but not limited to; MA Wetlands Protection Act, New York State DES Article 15 and 24, Section 401/404 Permitting, MA Chapter 91 Waterways, and MEPA/NEPA submittals;
  • Management of medium to large scale projects which includes understanding and strategic application of environmental regulations, development of project schedules and budgets, mentoring of junior staff and clear and effective communication with clients, regulators and the public; and
  • Complex wetland resource area delineations and oversight of staff completing large scale delineation efforts as well as other ecological field work including rare species surveys, wetland mitigation site design, environmental compliance inspections and associated reporting.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a natural resource-related field such as wetland science, biology, ecology, wildlife management, soil science, or botany.
  • 7-15 years of relevant professional experience in natural resource surveys and environmental permitting projects, particularly in federal and state wetlands/NEPA permitting in New England and New York.
  • General environmental consulting experience in the energy market sector, including traditional and renewable generation facilities, electric and natural gas transmission/distribution, and energy storage projects.
  • Superior writing and oral communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously as part of a multidisciplinary project team.
  • Ability to complete complex wetland delineations (including ability to delineate independently), function and value assessments, vernal pool surveys, wildlife habitat assessments, wetland restoration & replication planning/design, and construction oversight/inspection;
  • Certifications such as Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) or In Training (PWIT) by the Society of Wetland Scientists, wetland scientist certification (CWS) by the State of New Hampshire, and/or certification as a Certified Wildlife Biologist (CWB) by The Wildlife Society are a plus. Willingness to travel as necessary within the Northeast.
