Position SummaryIncumbents of positions in this series prepare or review plans, designs, specifications and cost estimates for engineering projects; prepare and/or review reports, studies and analytical data; perform calculations relating to engineering problems; perform engineering surveys; inspect construction and/or maintenance work; and perform professional engineering duties in such areas as highways, bridges, tunnels, buildings and facilities all in accordance with sound engineering principles, applicable laws, regulations and standards.

Duties and ResponsibilitiesThis Civil Engineer III position will act as a Night-Time Resident Engineer on Interstate Maintenance Resurfacing or similar type contracts such as multi-lane highway projects, including earthwork, drainage, bridge/tunnel construction or reconstruction, waterworks, electrical or environmental work.
The below listed duties and responsibilities are typical but not comprehensive. Other similar duties and responsibilities are as required and as directed.
Duties and responsibilities of lower grade employees in the same career track are assumed by the incumbent when subordinate personnel are not available. Directly fulfill or ensure that subordinate personnel fulfill duties 1 through 6, directly fulfill duties 7 through 11 as follows:
Document Contractors’ labor, equipment and work performed.
Deliver all Acceptance samples and associated RMS testing forms to the District Materials Laboratory in a timely manner. Field test Portland cement concrete as per the American Concrete Institute (ACI) procedures. Perform rotational capacity tests and installation tests on high‑strength bolts as per AASHTO / FHWA guidelines.
Accurately complete safety checklist on daily Field Inspection Reports and document Traffic Management Plan set‑ups and traffic conditions.
