Overview
A mission‑driven organization focused on helping educational and community institutions achieve climate neutrality is seeking a Decarbonization Engineer to support the planning, engineering, and implementation of deep carbon‑reduction initiatives. This individual will play a central role in developing energy‑efficiency and decarbonization projects that transform existing facilities into higher‑performing, lower‑emission buildings.
The ideal candidate brings strong technical acumen, the ability to navigate complex stakeholder environments, and a passion for advancing climate‑impact work.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct field assessments of existing building systems
- Perform ASHRAE Level I, II, and III energy audits
- Complete energy and greenhouse‑gas baseline and benchmarking analyses
- Build and calibrate energy models to support measure development
- Develop functional test procedures for HVAC systems
- Prepare scopes of work and cost estimates for energy‑efficiency and decarbonization projects
- Support financial modeling and project feasibility assessments
- Analyze client opportunities and contribute to proposal development
- Lead or support measurement and verification activities as needed
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
- Minimum of six years of relevant experience
- Strong understanding of HVAC controls and building automation systems
- Professional Engineer (PE) or Certified Energy Manager (CEM) credential preferred
- Excellent analytical, verbal, and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently in the field and collaboratively within a team
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel)
- Experience with energy‑modeling tools such as Open Studio, Energy Plus, or similar;
AutoCAD familiarity is a plus

This is a hybrid role based primarily in the organization’s New England office, with regular travel to client and partner sites throughout the region.
