Overview
VHB’s structural engineering group plays a vital role in developing and enhancing connectivity through infrastructure projects such as complex bridge and interchange designs, rehabilitation and inspection, pedestrian walkways, and transit stations. This diverse range of structural engineering services helps improve mobility for the traveling public.
VHB is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to join our dynamic and growing Structures group on a temp/flexible basis. In this position, the engineer will support the planning, analysis, and design of a diverse portfolio of structural projects across New England.
This role can be performed fully remotely by an engineer residing within the MA/RI/NH region, with travel to client sites as needed.
Responsibilities
• Support, develop, organize, and implement structural planning, analysis, and preliminary and final design document preparation.
• Task management.
• Review plans, specifications, reports, and analyses to meet scope, schedule, cost, and quality requirements.
Skills and Attributes
• Extensive knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures in structural engineering.
• Demonstrated excellence in technical writing.
• Team‑oriented with strong capability to work independently.
• Robust technical and critical‑thinking skills.
• Detail‑oriented and quality‑focused.
• Strong project‑management skills.
• Motivated to lead and mentor others.
• Knowledge of structural engineering software.
• Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, Micro Station v8, Revit, Open Roads, Open Bridge, and/or Connect is a strong plus.
Qualifications
• 8–11 years of professional experience in structural bridge and building design, construction phasing, and complex projects.
• BS in Civil Engineering;
Master’s Degree preferred.
• PE licensure required.
Compensation
Hourly rate varies by location:
Boston/Watertown, MA – $55.00–$81.00 per hour;
Worcester, MA – $50.00–$76.00 per hour. Final hourly compensation will be based on qualifications, education, and experience.
