Principal Overhead Transmission Line Engineer

Overview

Jacobs is looking for a Principal Overhead Transmission Line Engineer to support our Transmission & Distribution (T&D) operations across North America and contribute to the company’s energy transition portfolio. The role involves direct client interaction, senior design oversight, and mentoring team members while delivering high‑quality engineering solutions for utility upgrades, greenfields, brownfields, and developer interconnection projects.

• Collaborate with regional and global T&D delivery teams to support utility and developer clients.
• Develop comprehensive design deliverables for utility upgrades, greenfield/brownfield projects, and developer interconnection facilities.
• Serve as an engineering overview, authority, and independent technical advisor for owner‑representative duties in major T&D programs and network overhaul projects.
• Mentor and develop engineers across North America and globally, supporting sales, proposal preparation, and project delivery.
• Participate in professional societies and industry events to promote Jacobs’ services and stay abreast of industry innovations.
• Perform project scoping, prepare task orders, review designs from others, verify owner compliance, and conduct field visits as needed.

• Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electrical Power Engineering or related discipline.
• Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the United States, with the ability to obtain additional PE licenses if required.
• Minimum 15 years of direct overhead transmission line engineering design experience with a utility or consulting organization.
• Subject Matter Expert status for the team.
• Advanced knowledge of NESC, RUS, ASCE and other industry design specifications related to transmission line design.
• Experience developing detailed engineering deliverables including bill of materials, design criteria documents, stringing charts, structure drawings, and assemblies.
• Experience developing and reviewing steel pole vendor specifications and fabrication drawings.
• Demonstrated QA/QC of design calculations, construction drawings, and specifications.
• Proficiency with PLS‑CADD, PLS‑Pole, PLS‑Tower and ability to train others.
• Proficiency with foundation design software such as MFAD and LPile.
• Owner’s representative experience is a plus.
• Ability to perform project scoping, prepare task orders, and verify owners' compliance.
• Field visit and walk‑down experience with construction support.
• Experience with Microsoft Office suite, AutoCAD, and relevant software.
• Strong communication and technical writing skills.
• Team player with excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation abilities.
