Senior RF Engineer – Creative Play Lab
We are looking for an experienced RF Engineer to join our Hardware Engineering group in the Creative Play Lab, building next‑generation play experiences with LEGO® fans worldwide.
Core Responsibilities- Define requirements, design, verify, characterize, tune, and certify radio and electromagnetic subsystems for complex mechatronic toys.
- Design, simulate (COMSOL, QSPICE), prototype, characterize, and optimize NFC coils in various topologies, materials, and dimensions.
- Develop and run comprehensive test plans for design verification using network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, oscilloscopes, anechoic chambers, and protocol‑specific analyzers.
- Ensure compliance with global radio, EMC, and immunity regulations (FCC, CE, IC, JRL, CCC, etc.) by implementing mitigation techniques, running pre‑compliance tests, and supporting final regulatory activities.
- Collaborate closely with Mechanical, Embedded Engineering, and other Hardware teams across Boston, Denmark, and Singapore.
- Partner with suppliers to create NFC tag systems that are performant, cost‑effective, manufacturable, and reliable at high volumes for the LEGO SMART Play™ system.
- Senior RF/EMC engineer with proven experience in specifications, simulation, design, validation, and regulatory certification in high‑volume consumer applications.
- Practical experience implementing hardware for NFC tags and readers, including underlying communication protocols.
- Proficient in designing, simulating, characterizing, and tuning NFC coil designs across topologies, form factors, and materials for performance metrics such as range, efficiency, Q, cost, and regulatory compliance.
- Hands‑on proficiency with lab equipment: vector network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, current probes, oscilloscopes, anechoic chambers, and protocol‑specific testers.
- Strong organizational and written/verbal communication skills for global engineering efforts involving internal and third‑party partners.
- Capable of traveling 15‑30 days per year.
Choose to work at our LEGO office in Boston (Boylston St, Back Bay) or at the Global Headquarters in Billund, Denmark. The role follows a 3‑day hybrid model.
