About the Opportunity

This is a high-impact leadership role responsible for establishing and growing the Massachusetts engineering business unit. The Director of Engineering will oversee technical delivery, department operations, client development, and strategic growth initiatives within the Boston market.

This role is ideal for a senior engineering leader with strong expertise in building envelope systems and structural restoration of existing and historic buildings. The position combines technical leadership, team management, client relationship ownership, and business development responsibilities.

The Director will work closely with executive leadership to shape regional strategy, build high-performing teams, and ensure consistent delivery of high-quality engineering and consulting services.

Position Overview

We are seeking a licensed engineering leader with a strong background in civil, structural, architectural, or building envelope consulting.

This role is responsible for overseeing project execution, guiding technical teams, maintaining client relationships, and driving regional growth. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable in technical engineering discussions, client-facing leadership meetings, and strategic business development initiatives.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead and grow the Massachusetts engineering and consulting business unit
  • Oversee project delivery from planning through construction closeout
  • Provide technical guidance on structural and building envelope restoration projects
  • Conduct and oversee forensic investigations, field inspections, and condition assessments
  • Review and approve technical reports, drawings, specifications, and field documentation
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and contractual requirements
  • Serve as a senior client advisor and maintain long-term client relationships
  • Lead project meetings with clients, contractors, legal teams, and stakeholders
  • Support and participate in mediations, depositions, and expert testimony as needed
  • Oversee project budgets, schedules, and resource allocation
  • Drive business development and support marketing efforts and client expansion
  • Mentor, develop, and manage a multidisciplinary team of engineers and project managers
  • Establish and improve internal processes, QA/QC standards, and operational workflows
  • Collaborate with executive leadership on strategic planning and regional growth initiatives
What You Bring
  • 7+ years of experience in civil, structural, architectural, construction, or consulting engineering
  • Strong background in building envelope systems and structural restoration of existing/historic buildings
  • Proven experience in project leadership, client management, and team oversight
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Architecture required (advanced degree preferred)
  • Professional Engineer (PE) or Registered Architect (RA) license required
  • Strong understanding of building codes, standards, and construction practices
  • Experience managing complex, multi-stakeholder projects
  • Strong technical writing, communication, and presentation skills
  • Ability to lead both technical teams and client-facing engagements
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites as needed
