Overview

Your future role on our team You’ll serve as a subject matter expert (SME) in high-pressure steam systems and steam turbines for complex industrial projects in the energy, cogeneration, thermal power plant, mining and heavy industry sectors. You’ll be involved across the full asset life cycle (design, operations, optimization, reliability and safety), while working closely with engineering, operations, maintenance, project and health and safety teams.

You’ll also help develop internal capabilities and technical excellence within the thermal systems team.

Responsibilities
  • Design, analyze and optimize high-pressure steam systems, including boilers, headers, safety valves, relief systems and condensate systems
  • Specify, select and validate steam turbines (HP/IP/LP), their auxiliaries (lubrication, governing, sealing, vacuum) and the associated control systems
  • Carry out or oversee thermodynamic studies, including mass and energy balances, efficiency calculations, performance curves, energy optimization, transient scenarios and start-ups and shutdowns
  • Develop, update, and validate operating, start-up and shutdown, and lockout and tagout procedures for steam and turbine systems
  • Lead preventive, condition-based and corrective maintenance programs (inspections, NDT, major overhauls and planned shutdowns)
  • Contribute to capital projects (refurbishments, capacity increases, new steam or turbine islands and cogeneration), from conceptual design through to commissioning
  • Train and support operations and maintenance teams on best operating and safety practices
  • Participate in risk analyses, including HAZOP, FMEA, rupture and over pressure scenarios, and emergency plans
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, energy engineering, chemical engineering or a related field
  • At least 15 years of relevant experience in engineering, operations or maintenance of high-pressure steam systems and steam turbines (blades, stages, rotors, bearings, governing systems and protections)
  • Experience participating in major shutdowns, refurbishments or new installation projects
  • Proficiency in steam thermodynamics and Rankine cycles
  • Understanding of mechanical and materials constraints in high-pressure, high-temperature service (creep, thermal fatigue, stress corrosion cracking)
  • Knowledge of applicable codes and standards (ASME, API, EN, local regulations)
  • Ability to review P&IDs, control diagrams, isometrics and vendor documents
  • Advanced English skills to facilitate collaboration with other BBA offices and/or clients in English-speaking Canadian provinces and internationally; you may need to use English occasionally or daily, depending on current projects
  • Advanced French skills to facilitate collaboration with other BBA offices and/or clients in Québec
  • Asset: experience with calculation and simulation tools (thermal balances, pressure drop calculations, valve sizing)
  • Asset: specialization in applied thermodynamics, rotating machinery or pressure equipment
Rewards and Benefits
  • Annual premium program for all regular employees
  • Onsite mobility premium
  • Time bank
  • Cellphone fee reimbursements
  • Group insurance plan from the first day of employment, including disability insurance and a telemedicine program
  • Retirement savings plan
