@Orchard LLC is seeking a Field Team Lead for the North Atlantic region in support of a highly visible NOAA’s Nationwide Marine Debris Monitoring and Assessment Project Survey program. This role will be part-time hourly position with hours estimated at between 150-200 per quarter.
ScopeThe NOAA Marine Debris Program is conducting the NOAA Marine Debris Monitoring and Assessment Project Nationwide Survey, to establish regional estimates of marine debris found on U.S. shorelines. @Orchard is NOAA’s partner to carry out this project.
DescriptionThe Team Leads are responsible for carrying out surveys across 12 pre-determined sites. The surveys are conducted quarterly.
Responsibilities- Lead surveys at the 12 pre-determined sites each quarter following established protocol. Exceptions to the quarterly cadence will be rare but may occur due to snow and ice cover or environmental restrictions.
- Support recruitment of and coordinate at least one field team assistant.
- Schedule, plan, execute, document, and report travel in accordance with @Orchard and NOAA guidance, and in compliance with the Federal Joint Travel Regulations.
- Adhere to NOAA approved Safety and Quality Control Management Plans.
- Obtain and maintain required permits and permissions for each site.
- Perform data entry and quality control, following established protocols.
- Adhere to the government’s environmental compliance requirements.
- Positively represent the project and @Orchard in all interactions with stakeholders including but not limited to land managers and members of the public
- Site access may require long hikes or drives, renting and driving a small boat, or chartering a small boat with a captain
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, marine biology, marine science or related fields.
- A minimum 5 years of environmental data collection project management experience.
- Detailed oriented with exceptional data entry and data management experience.
- Experience with ArcGIS Survey
123 is a strong preference. - Familiarity with environmental survey and sampling techniques.
- Ability to navigate to precise locations.
- Willingness to travel and conduct fieldwork in remote, sometimes difficult to reach locations.
- Maintain safety, quality, and composure in challenging environments (e.g. hot, buggy, windy, wet etc.).
- Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
The pay range will be based on experience and qualifications, and is expected to be in the range of $28-$35 an hour.
