Position: Staff Technician, Civil/Geotechnical Engineer or Geologist 2

Staff Technician, Civil/Geotechnical Engineer or Geologist 2

Full‑time position located in Boston, MA. Requires frequent travel to job sites, typically 95% of the time outside the office, and the ability to lift and transport up to 50 lbs of equipment unassisted.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Monitor geotechnical and environmental drilling and test pits.
  • Produce boring logs that include soil and rock core classifications, and site geology conditions.
  • Collect geotechnical and environmental soil samples.
  • Use various geotechnical and environmental instrumentation and equipment.
  • Conduct site reconnaissance.
  • Prepare detailed notes, take photographs, and document procedures for use by supervisory or project personnel.
  • Prepare daily/weekly field reports, including written reports with figures, photographs, and summary tables.
  • Travel out of state to project sites periodically for several weeks at a time.
  • Work on sites with asbestos present while wearing Level C PPE, including Tyvek suits and respirators.
  • Perform low‑flow groundwater sampling.
  • Perform field tests on soil and rock.
  • Adhere to site‑specific health and safety plans, including participation in safety briefings and audits.
  • Coordinate scheduling with contractors and subcontractors.
  • Monitor execution of field and lab testing activities completed by subcontractors.
  • Participate in team meetings.
  • Coordinate with internal project team members daily.
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE – MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Geology, or related field.
  • 1–3 years of related work experience.
  • Strong written, verbal, and telephone communication skills, particularly for producing accurate field notes.
  • Basic Microsoft Excel and Word capabilities.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Reliable transportation to travel to job sites and the office.
  • Familiarity with setting up and using GPS devices is a plus.
  • Experience directing subcontractors is a plus.
  • OSHA 40‑hr. HAZWOPER training preferred but not required.

Salary Range
:
Boston, MA – $31.00–$35.00 per hour, based on education, experience, certificates, skills, and market conditions.
