Requirements
- Pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology
- Academic or hands‑on experience in robotics, mechanical, or electromechanical design
- Experience designing for manufacturability (machined parts, sheet metal, castings, thermoplastics)
- Familiarity with CAD tools such as Creo, Windchill, or Solid Works
- Understanding of engineering fundamentals, including stress analysis and basic FEA
- Knowledge of GD&T and engineering drawing standards
- Experience working with suppliers, RFQs, and manufacturing processes
- Exposure to requirements definition, validation, and risk analysis (e.g., FMEA)
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate with teams and interact with customers
- Hands‑on, team‑oriented mindset with a proactive approach
- Locus Robotics is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Co-Op to support the development of our autonomous mobile robots and related accessories. This role sits within the Customer & Continuation Engineering group and focuses on design, analysis, and cross‑functional collaboration to bring scalable, cost‑effective hardware solutions to production
- Co‑Op period is June/July
- December 2026, during standard business hours (Monday
- Friday, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM ET) - Design, model, and detail components and assemblies for AMRs and supporting accessories using Creo/Windchill and Solid Works
- Evaluate designs for strength and stiffness using hand calculations, FEA, and other analytical methods
- Develop components optimized for high‑volume, cost‑effective manufacturing
- Partner with operations, manufacturing, and procurement teams to improve assembly efficiency and meet production timelines
- Collaborate with suppliers to define competitive manufacturing strategies
- Support prototyping efforts, including machining, 3D printing, and rapid iteration processes
- Assist in developing and executing validation and test plans
- Document designs and present work through design reviews to cross‑functional stakeholders
