Building Automation Design Engineer
K. Jacobs is seeking a Building Automation Design Engineer to join a well-established, multidisciplinary engineering firm. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to a variety of projects across sectors such as education, healthcare, science and technology, and civic infrastructure.
About the Role:As a Building Automation Design Engineer, you will be instrumental in designing and developing integrated control systems that enhance building performance and occupant comfort. Your work will involve close collaboration with internal MEP teams and external stakeholders to deliver innovative and efficient solutions.
Key Responsibilities:- Design and develop building automation systems, focusing on HVAC controls, security systems, and energy management integrations.
- Create system layouts, select appropriate control devices, and develop detailed schematics.
- Develop and document sequences of operation tailored to specific project requirements.
- Coordinate automation designs with mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems to ensure seamless integration.
- Provide technical support during installation and commissioning phases.
- Assist in energy modeling and sustainable design initiatives to promote energy efficiency.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- 5–8 years of experience in building automation system (BAS) or HVAC controls design.
- Proficiency with control systems such as Trane, Johnson Controls, Siemens, or Honeywell.
- Experience with AutoCAD and/or Revit; familiarity with control system programming is a plus.
- Strong understanding of MEP coordination and integrated systems design.
- Experience with projects in sectors like education, healthcare, or civic infrastructure is preferred.
