Transportation Project Manager | Boston, MA
A well established civil engineering firm is hiring a Transportation Project Manager to help grow its Boston transportation practice. The Boston office delivers roadway and bridge design, traffic engineering, water and wastewater, and public involvement work for MassDOT and a range of municipal and local agencies across Massachusetts and New England. This is a seller doer role, as much about leading business development and growing the operation as executing the project work.
Theprojects
- You will step into a strong active pipeline, including high profile overpass and corridor improvements in Cambridge (alternatives analysis and preliminary design)
- Multiple MassDOT Design Build assignments (supporting Skanska on a major Bridge Bundle, and Lead Engineer for Northern Construction on a bridge replacement)
- Complete Streets and corridor projects across MA and New England
- MassDOT plus municipal on call contracts
What you will do
- Serve as Project Manager on transportation projects, creating and executing work plans and owning budget and schedule accountability.
- Manage teams, coordinate across disciplines internally and with subconsultants, and mentor junior staff.
- Champion client relationships, especially with MassDOT, and represent the firm at industry events.
- Identify and lead strategic pursuits, contribute to division growth initiatives, and help shape regional growth strategy.
- This is a leadership track seat.
- Direct project supervision and leadership, ownership of project financials and resource allocation, and developing scope, schedule, and budget into clear work plans.
- Delegate staff duties, resolve scope and budget discrepancies with the Group Manager and client, and check and sign off deliverables.
- Ensure safety compliance, track lessons learned, support staff Professional Development Plans, and contribute to proposals.
- A minimum of 10 years of design experience, including managing projects, with direct MassDOT project experience and a track record of delivering to budget and schedule.
- A genuine seller doer mentality, excellent communication and client relation skills, and strong project management.
- Education and licensure: BSCE or related discipline. Registered Professional Engineer in Massachusetts.
