Are you a hands‑on engineer with a passion for designing custom solutions? Our growing client—an industry leader—is looking for a driven Mechanical Design Engineer to evaluate new products and spearhead custom engineering processes. In this role, you will be the backbone of product development, taking ownership of projects from concept to final production while collaborating closely with customers and internal teams.

If you have 7–10 years of experience and are looking to take the next step in your career with a forward‑thinking company located in the Greater Boston area, we want to hear from you!

Core Responsibilities Electromechanical & Sheet Metal Design
  • Design & Development: Create detailed 3D CAD models and 2D fabrication drawings for sheet metal enclosures, chassis, panels, and brackets using Solid Works and AutoCAD.
  • Assembly Engineering: Develop complete electromechanical assemblies, including structural components, hardware, wiring harnesses, and mounting solutions.
  • Tolerance Analysis: Conduct tolerance stack‑up analyses to ensure flawless fit, form, and function of mating components.
  • Design for Manufacturability (DFM): Optimize designs for fabrication processes (laser cutting, punching, forming, welding, hardware insertion, and finishing).
Costing, Quoting & Cross‑Functional Collaboration
  • Cost Estimation: Generate accurate cost estimates and prepare detailed customer quotes, including Bills of Materials (BOMs), labor hours, and pricing.
  • Production Validation: Collaborate with manufacturing and purchasing teams to validate cost assumptions and secure optimal lead times.
  • Electrical Translation: Translate customer wire layouts and schematics (including surge protection, monitor modules, temperature controllers, and relays) into actionable designs.
  • Design Reviews: Drive design reviews, presenting technical concepts to both internal stakeholders and end clients.
Process Improvement & Documentation
  • NPD & ECOs: Utilize the internal New Product Development (NPD) process, maintain accurate Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) via PLM/PDM systems, and promote continuous improvement.
  • Design Standards: Create and maintain standard design guidelines and component libraries to maximize design reuse.
  • R&D Innovation: Evaluate and introduce new materials and technologies to improve product quality, reduce costs, and streamline manufacturing.
  • Documentation: Maintain meticulous records of design decisions, engineering calculations, and test results.
Required Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • Experience: 7–10 years of professional mechanical design experience, with a heavy emphasis on sheet metal fabrication.
  • Software Proficiency: Expert‑level proficiency in Solid Works and AutoCAD.
