Senior Electrical Engineer – Power and Analog Design (Product Development)

Sonos seeks an experienced Electrical Engineer to design power electronics and analog circuits for our next‑generation audio products. This onsite Boston role focuses on AC/DC, DC/DC power conversion, signal conditioning, and custom magnetics, working closely with embedded, acoustics, mechanical, software, radio, and JDM partners.

Location

Boston, MA – on‑site, minimum 3 days per week. Candidates must live within commuting distance of the Boston office.

What you’ll do
  • Provide technical guidance on power and analog designs within the Electrical System team
  • Research and prototype new technologies to enhance Sonos products
  • Advance simulation and test methodologies for power and analog design
  • Design and develop analog circuits for AC/DC and DC/DC power conversion, signal conditioning, and audio amplification
  • Design custom magnetics for power amplifiers and supplies
  • Develop and execute engineering validation plans to ensure high‑quality designs
  • Document designs, validation plans, and test results
  • Ensure compliance with EMC, energy efficiency, and safety regulations
  • Collaborate across disciplines and with JDM partners
  • Lead and mentor junior electrical engineers and JDM electrical engineers in power and analog design
What you’ll need – Basic Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering with ≥6years of industry experience, or BS with ≥8years experience
  • Proficient English: verbal and written communication
  • Hands‑on experience owning analog and power electronics design in high‑volume products
  • Deep understanding of efficient power designs, circuit and magnetics specifications
  • Knowledge of safety and compliance standards for consumer electronics
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with system‑level knowledge
  • Proficiency in creating and editing schematic and layout files
  • Leadership skills – schedule management, mentoring, motivating, and leading project teams
  • Experience collaborating with mechanical, radio, acoustics, compliance, system software, UX, packaging, manufacturing, sourcing teams
  • Technically inquisitive and able to learn new skills rapidly and apply them
  • Ability to develop and execute design validation testing plans
  • Excellent reporting and communication skills, explaining complex issues
  • Experience with simulation/analysis tools and engineering judgment to resolve issues
  • Strong sense of ownership and ability to explain design decisions
  • Ability to work with people from diverse cultural backgrounds and time zones
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with electrical, mechanical, layout engineers, compliance teams, and program management from JDM partners
  • Embedded circuit design (CPU, Memory, Ethernet, USB, HDMI, digital audio)
  • Use of audio test equipment such as power amplifiers, EMC test tools, network analyzers, spectrum analyzers
  • Design experience with lithium‑ion battery management and wired/wireless charging systems
  • Direct experience with battery technology (cell and pack level) and battery management
  • Design experience in audio amplifiers
  • Knowledge of compliance, regulatory requirements, and testing procedures
  • Experience with USB‑Type‑C, USB‑PD, and Power over Ethernet
  • Experience in wireless communications, audio, and acoustic products

Compensation

Base salary range $143,000 – $178,500, depending on geographic location, qualifications, and experience.
