Talascend is currently seeking aDirector of Engineering for a direct hire opportunity with our client located in Boston, MA.

Overview:

Responsibilities:
  • Site Selection and Feasibility Support – Provide recommendations to the Project Manager on the technical feasibility of individual sites contemplated for new development projects;
  • Technology Assessments – Conduct technical assessments of different OEMs and classes of power generation technology and provide recommendations to the Project Manager on the type of technology to use for the project;
  • Development of Plant Performance Estimates – Work with OEMs to develop plant performance and emissions estimates for use in the interconnection process, RFP proposals, permitting and the financial model;
  • Interconnection Process – Develop all technical inputs in support of a project’s initial Interconnection Request and subsequent studies conducted by the regional ISO;
  • Infrastructure Requirements Evaluation – Work closely with the Project Manager to determine all feasible options for required project infrastructure including: site access, electrical interconnection, gas interconnection and water/wastewater pipelines;
  • Development of Site Drawings – Develop with the Owner’s Engineer all site layouts, grading plans, elevations and other drawings necessary for project development and permitting;
  • Permit Support – Provide technical support to the Project Manager for all relevant local, state, and federal environmental permits, construction permits, building permits, including technology descriptions, and application development;
  • Real Estate – Manage the activities of the Surveying Consultant along with review and input on the project title status informing the Project Manager of technical design impacts;
  • Financial Model Development – Develop all technical inputs to the project financial model, including estimates of performance, EPC and OEM capital costs, operating and maintenance expenses, and operational capital expenditures;
  • Technical Contract Development and Negotiations – Lead the process for all technical contracts (EPC Contracts, Equipment Purchase Contracts, O&M contracts and LTSAs), including developing solicitations of interest and request for proposals, evaluation of responses, and negotiating commercial terms of the contracts;
  • Management of Consultants – Manage the activities of the Owner’s Engineer and other technical consultants providing support to the project;
  • Project Finance – Support all activities required for the financial close of a project, including direct interaction with the lender’s Independent Engineer and responding to all due diligence requests;
  • Acquisition Due Diligence – Provide technical due diligence support for all potential project acquisitions, including development of information requests, review of data and management of all technical consultants;
  • Construction Management Support – Provide general support to the Construction Manager on an as‑needed basis for all technical issues that arise during the construction phase of a project;
  • Presentations – Provide presentations on project status and technical development strategy to Project Managers, senior management, equity and development partners.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum 12 years of engineering experience, with a minimum of 8 of those years in the power generation industry, with experience in both the technical and commercial aspects of power plant development.
  • The candidate should have strong knowledge of conventional power plant technology including combustion turbine and combined cycle power plants, environmental aspects of combined cycle power plant development, and general knowledge of EPC contract terms.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent experience required.
  • 5-10 years leading multidisciplinary engineering teams
  • Largely self-sufficient to carry out and execute on multiple tasks and multiple projects at the same time;
