The Geotechnical team in Boston expects the Senior Geotechnical Engineer to work on challenging projects across New England.
Responsibilities- Direct junior staff to perform field activities including geotechnical drilling, laboratory testing, and construction observations with subcontractors.
- Coordinate geotechnical tasks and manage medium to large size geotechnical projects.
- Review construction submittals and daily field reports.
- Perform geotechnical engineering analyses and prepare reports for the design and construction of shallow and deep foundations.
- Review work of and mentor junior staff.
- Prepare contract specifications and drawings.
- Interrelate with external clients and subcontractors.
- Provide quality technical support on municipal, commercial, transportation, energy, and water projects; design/build projects preferred.
- Strong analytical skills in areas such as:
- Geotechnical engineering evaluations including:
- Earth retention systems design
- Shallow and deep foundation design
- Ground improvement techniques
- Earthquake engineering
- Experience with drilling oversight and soil/rock classification.
- Experience with construction oversight including subgrade observations, backfill and compaction observations, deep foundation installation.
- HDD or tunnel design experience is a plus but not required.
- 6 to 10 years of related experience.
- Registered Professional Engineer (PE).
- Positive work attitude and ability to work safely and efficiently when managing multiple tasks and junior staff.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Willingness to travel and perform field work under inclement weather and physically demanding conditions.
- Self‑motivated, organized, with a keen sense of detail.
- Availability to work additional hours beyond a standard 40‑hour week when needed.
