Our team works closely with our engineering staff to understand the design strategies for each building to determine the best way to operate a facility.
We are seeking a Commissioning Agent to join our Engineering group! This role is ideal for a candidate that understands HVAC, Electrical and Plumbing systems who enjoys working as part of a team and solving complex building performance challenges from design through construction and closeout.
The Commissioning Agent (CxA) is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing the commissioning process to ensure building systems are designed, installed, tested, and operated in accordance with the owner’s project requirements (OPR), design intent, and applicable codes and standards. The CxA acts as an independent authority to verify that systems perform as intended, delivering safe, efficient, and reliable building operations.
This is a full-time position with the opportunity to work from our offices in Boston, MA.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and manage the overall commissioning plan from design through occupancy
- Review Owner’s Project Requirements (OPR), Basis of Design (BOD), and construction documents for completeness, coordination, and commissioning readiness
- Coordinate commissioning activities with owners, architects, engineers, contractors, and facility staff.
- Prepare commissioning specifications, checklists, test procedures, and functional performance test (FPT) scripts.
- Witness and document installation verification and functional testing of building systems, including:
- HVAC systems and controls (BAS)
- Electrical and lighting systems
- Plumbing and domestic water systems
- Fire/life safety systems (as applicable)
- Renewable energy or specialty systems (as applicable)
- Identify deficiencies, track issues through resolution, and verify corrective actions
- Review contractor submittals, operation and maintenance (O&M) manuals, and as-built documentation
- Coordinate and/or lead systems training for owner and operations staff
- Compile and submit final commissioning reports and record documentation
- Support warranty-phase commissioning and seasonal testing when required
- Ensure commissioning activities comply with applicable standards (ASHRAE, LEED, local codes, etc.)
Physical Requirements
- Combination of office, construction site, and mechanical room environments
- Ability to travel to project sites and attend field inspections
- Ability to climb ladders, access rooftops, and work around active construction areas
- Occasional lifting of equipment or documentation materials
