The Resident Engineer is a full-time, on-site role based in Boston, MA, responsible for providing engineering oversight and support during the construction and implementation of infrastructure projects. Day-to-day responsibilities include reviewing design documents and shop drawings, monitoring construction activities for adherence to plans and specifications, and identifying and resolving technical issues in coordination with project managers and contractors. The Resident Engineer will perform site inspections, track progress, document field conditions, and prepare technical reports and updates for stakeholders.
This role also supports quality assurance, observes testing and commissioning activities, and helps ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, and environmental requirements. The position involves regular collaboration with clients, contractors, and internal teams to keep projects on schedule, within scope, and aligned with engineering standards and best practices.
- Candidates should possess strong civil, mechanical, or electrical engineering knowledge related to infrastructure projects, including design principles, construction methods, and technical standards.
- Candidates should possess skills in interpreting engineering drawings and specifications, reviewing submittals, and performing field inspections and observations.
- Candidates should possess proficiency in project documentation, including preparing reports, maintaining logs, and tracking issues, changes, and progress.
- Candidates should possess abilities in coordinating with contractors and clients, communicating technical information clearly, and supporting issue resolution in the field.
- Candidates should possess familiarity with safety regulations, quality assurance practices, and relevant local, state, and federal codes applicable to infrastructure projects.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field; professional licensure (EIT/PE) or progress toward licensure is preferred.
- Experience working on-site for construction or infrastructure projects, preferably in an owner’s representative, resident engineer, or field engineering capacity.
- Ability to work on-site in Boston, MA, manage multiple priorities, and collaborate in a multidisciplinary team environment.
