Fire Protection Engineering Intern
IMEG is hiring a Fire Protection Engineering Intern in Des Moines, IA to support engineering analysis, design, and implementation oversight of fire protection systems in buildings. Over 10-12 weeks, you will assist with real project work alongside experienced engineers and consultants in a paid, mentored internship. You will support project budgeting, coordinate with multiple disciplines, document design decisions and client instructions, and assist with document review, addenda, and periodic job site observations.
This opportunity supports work connected to public-safety, industrial, and federal facility applications while helping teams meet project goals and client expectations.

What You'll Do
- Assist with design portions of fire protection systems for building projects according to code and IMEG standards
- Research commercially available equipment and supporting resources
- Support project budgeting and collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations
- Help maintain client relations, project design notebooks, and permanent record documentation
- Coordinate design and schedule information with architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, technology, clerical, and equipment supplier teams
- Document design decisions, meetings, and client instructions while monitoring project progress
- Review project documents for accuracy and completeness before final check
- Assist with preparation and issuance of addendum information
- Conduct periodic job site observations and support contract-required services
What You'll Bring
Education and Experience
- Completed at least 2 years towards a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent required
- Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry preferred
Skills and Abilities
- Strong interest in design consulting
- Proficient with MS Office Suite including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Skilled in AutoCAD and/or Building Information Modeling (BIM) software
- Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups

State of Massachusetts Pay Range: $22.00–$24.00 per hour
