I'm currently supporting a well-established, privately owned engineering consulting firm with the appointment of a Senior Commissioning Agent in Boston.
This is a senior opportunity for an experienced MEP commissioning professional who has built their career within the MEP/AEC, building services, engineering consultancy, or construction environment.
The successful candidate will bring a strong understanding of the commissioning process across the building lifecycle, from design and construction through functional performance testing, troubleshooting, documentation, optimization, and final handover.
The RoleYou’ll take technical responsibility across the commissioning lifecycle, working closely with MEP design engineers, contractors, vendors, owners, and client teams.
The role involves commissioning complex MEP systems within technically demanding facilities, ensuring systems are properly designed, installed, tested, integrated, operational, and performing in accordance with the project requirements.
The successful candidate will be comfortable operating in a consulting environment and engaging with multiple project stakeholders throughout design, construction, commissioning, and closeout.
Key responsibilities include:- Developing and coordinating functional testing of multi-stack and multi-redundant MEP systems
- Reviewing commissioning criteria, specifications, drawings, equipment submittals, and technical documentation
- Writing and administering Commissioning Plans and Systems Manuals
- Supporting and overseeing QA/QC activities
- Conducting construction administration, field investigations, and detailed inspections
- Testing, validating, troubleshooting, and optimizing complex electrical and mechanical systems
- Supporting project scheduling, staffing, budgets, and delivery
- Working closely with design engineers, contractors, vendors, and client teams
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent relevant experience
- 7+ years of hands-on field experience in testing, validation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of large electrical or mechanical systems
- 7-10 years of relevant MEP experience
- Experience commissioning or designing large systems within data centers, industrial, pharmaceutical, laboratory, healthcare, power generation, or similar technical facilities
- Strong understanding of MEP system selection and application
- Thorough understanding of applicable electrical/mechanical codes
- Practical understanding of LEED principles and their application to building design
- Strong communication, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills
A traditional MEP/AEC commissioning, engineering, building services, or similar consultancy/contracting background is particularly relevant to this position.
Advantageous ExperienceExperience with ASHRAE, BCxA, PECI Cx / RETRO-Cx procedures and protocols
