The Professional Writing and Music Technology Division is seeking engineers to join our Session Engineer program that offers a unique opportunity for students to gain hands‑on experience working with faculty and fellow musicians in real‑world recording environments. This role is a direct pathway to a career as a professional recording engineer.
What You’ll Do- Record and engineer the PWL recording sessions.
- Be available for ad‑hoc recording sessions outside of established studios as a contractor.
- Distribute parts, set up the studio, move microphones, prepare Pro Tools sessions, check attendance, and otherwise ensure the smooth operation of the PWL sessions.
- Create the desired mix for the specific lab you are engineering.
- Distribute recorded assets (stems, files, etc.) to the lab’s Google Drive folder immediately after each session.
- Maintain and clean up the PWL rooms after each band, including properly wrapping cables, putting away microphones, and covering the piano and other equipment.
- Completed MP‑385, Advanced Recording Techniques.
- Completed the Studio Operations training session.
- Understanding of proper techniques for recording various instruments (saxophones, brass, percussion, piano, electric and acoustic bass/guitar, etc.).
- Robust knowledge of DAW workflow.
- Previous recording/sound experience with acoustic ensembles.
- Experience using Google Drive and other Google tools.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Reliable and consistent.
- Hands‑on experience recording music with top‑notch musicians.
- Opportunities to work directly with Berklee faculty and industry professionals.
- Development of technical and creative skills as a session engineer.
- Networking with faculty and peers, opening doors to future collaborations and career opportunities.
- Experience that complements academic studies at Berklee.
Hourly Rate: $20.64/hour
