The Controller is responsible for overseeing all accounting operations, financial reporting, and internal controls for a multi-channel retail and eCommerce organization. This role ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial information, supports operational decision-making, and drives continuous improvement across accounting processes. The ideal candidate brings strong experience in retail accounting, inventory management, and financial controls within a product-based environment.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
- Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Ensure timely and accurate reporting of financial results to executive leadership.
- Manage general ledger activity, account reconciliations, and journal entries.
- Coordinate annual audits and manage relationships with external auditors.
- Lead inventory accounting processes across retail and eCommerce channels.
- Monitor inventory valuation, reserves, shrinkage, and obsolescence.
- Ensure accurate costing (standard, FIFO, weighted average, etc.) and margin analysis.
- Partner with operations and supply chain teams to improve inventory controls and reporting.
- Oversee physical inventory counts and cycle count programs.
- Establish and maintain strong internal controls and accounting policies.
- Ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations and reporting requirements.
- Evaluate financial systems and recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and scalability.
- Oversee cash flow forecasting and working capital management.
- Supervise accounts payable and accounts receivable functions.
- Monitor credit card processing, chargebacks, and eCommerce payment platforms.
- Lead and develop the accounting team.
- Collaborate with merchandising, operations, supply chain, and eCommerce teams to support business initiatives.
- Provide financial insights to support pricing, promotions, and growth strategies.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred.
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership experience.
- Strong background in retail, consumer products, or eCommerce environments.
- Deep understanding of inventory accounting and cost of goods sold.
- Experience with ERP systems and inventory management platforms.
- Knowledge of GAAP and internal control frameworks.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
