Our client, a Top 15 public accounting firm, is seeking a Tax Manager to join their Methods, Credits & Incentives (MCI) – Research & Development (R&D) Tax Credit practice. In this role, you will help clients navigate the complexity of R&D tax credits by delivering practical, high-quality tax guidance while working in a collaborative, growth-oriented environment.
As a Tax Manager, you will work closely with MCI leadership to oversee R&D engagements, conduct technical research, manage fieldwork activities, and contribute to business development initiatives. From project initiation through final delivery, you will ensure engagements are executed in accordance with firm standards, completed on schedule, and remain within budget while supporting team success and client satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct client site visits and perform facility walkthroughs to gather relevant operational and financial information
- Analyze accounting and financial data, prepare cost lead schedules and cost summary summaries, and perform R&D tax credit computations
- Prepare technical reports documenting findings, conclusions, and supporting rationale
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining accountability for overall project delivery and quality control
- Support business development activities, including proposal development and client pursuit efforts
- Collaborate with internal teams and leadership to enhance service delivery and technical execution
- Perform additional duties as assigned
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field required
- Advanced degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) in Economics, Statistics, Public Policy, Mathematics, Finance, Engineering, or a related analytical discipline preferred
- Active CPA license or active JD/attorney license required (Enrolled Agent certification is not acceptable)
- 6–10 years of experience in R&D tax credits, tax accounting methods, or fixed asset tax work
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in public accounting or consulting
- Strong knowledge of federal R&D tax regulations and familiarity with relevant state rules and case law
- Intermediate understanding of tax return mechanics, including experience with return amendments
- Prior project or engagement management experience required
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple engagements, meet deadlines, and support leadership initiatives
- Willingness to travel to client sites and work additional hours as needed
Experience supporting clients in technology, life sciences, manufacturing, construction, real estate, hospitality, or nonprofit sectors is a plus.
