Purpose and Job Summary
Reporting to the Chief Credit Officer of Boston Financial Investment Management, LP (BF), the Senior Director of Underwriting will provide oversight and leadership to the Account Management team responsible for evaluating, underwriting, and closing equity investments for Boston Financial sponsored funds. The Senior Director will work collaboratively to refine underwriting processes and guidelines that align to current best practices and ensure the highest quality due diligence, communication and documentation for each investment.
This position will work closely with Capital and Underwriting Specialties and other internal teams to analyze potential risks and craft solutions that balance client and stakeholder needs and interests with those of the company, while driving a strong control framework. The Senior Director will chair the Screening Committee, manage deal closing timelines, and allocate team resources to ensure optimal pipeline and deal flow execution.
- Manage a team of Account Managers and Analysts, setting expectations and developing best practices.
- Develop and refine policies and procedures for collection, review, and analysis of due diligence.
- Lead Project Management skills and responsiveness, ensuring timely award of resources.
- Maintain written and verbal communication with key stakeholders and stay current on industry trends, deal terms, and regulatory changes.
- Serve as Chair of the Screening Committee, reviewing deliverables for quality and accuracy and ensuring follow‑up.
- Assist in quality control and review processes prior to distributing Boston Financial Investment Screening Forms to investors.
- Identify transaction risks, evaluate solutions, and recommend risk mitigation to Senior Management.
- Establish relationships with external parties (legal, tax/advisors, engineering, insurance, consultants) to manage transaction risk.
- Lead full performance cycle management for the team, including goal setting, check‑ins, performance evaluations, and development planning.
- Coaching and direction to team in their development, identification of career paths, and talent retention.
- Ensure effective training, onboarding and off‑boarding processes for team and direct reports.
- Support change‑management initiatives and cross‑organization efforts as required.
- Represent Boston Financial at industry or client‑specific events.
- Bachelor’s degree in business or finance.
- 10+ years of LIHTC underwriting experience.
- Understanding of general accounting principles and Sec
42 of the Code. - Advanced financial and analytical skills, proficiency in understanding complex real‑estate, financial transactions, tax credit, and partnership structures.
- Excellent verbal, written, presentation, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Ability to balance multiple projects and communicate effectively with senior management, developers, and investors.
- Strong negotiation and problem‑solving skills.
