Boston University’s Broadcast (WBUR) seeks an experienced Controller/Director of Finance to lead all financial and accounting operations. The role includes general ledger management, billing and collections, procurement, accounts payable, month‑and year‑end close processes, budgeting, forecasting, grant administration, and compliance with nonprofit standards. The Director reports to the Chief Financial & Operations Officer and partners with Boston University Financial Affairs and other organizational units to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.

Position Type:

- Lead all financial and accounting operations, including general ledger, taxation, payroll oversight, and grant management.
- Oversee month‑and year‑end close processes and provide timely, accurate financial statements to management and the Board.
- Support budgeting and forecasting activities and ensure compliance with regulatory and institutional requirements.
- Develop and implement process improvements to enhance operational efficiency and service quality.
- Collaborate with Boston University Financial Affairs office on financial reporting, forecasting, and coordination of activities.
- Lead and develop a high‑performing finance and accounting team.
- Strong analytical skills that translate financials into business performance insights.
- Familiarity with enterprise resource planning systems (e.g., SAP or comparable).
- Orientation toward continuous process improvement and capacity building within the team.
- Effective team leadership delivering timely and accurate results.
- Anticipates questions, simplifies messages for diverse audiences, and collaborates across functions.
- Provides meaningful input that drives informed decision‑making.
- Designs exhibits and reports that focus on what matters most.
- At least eight years of related experience.
- B.A./B.S. degree (or equivalent); CPA and/or MBA is a plus.
- Proficiency in financial systems and software.
- Strong accounting and financial reporting skills.
- Experience with grant funding administration, pre‑ and post‑award processes.
- Knowledge of nonprofit accounting standards.
